Here is an extensive list to many recognized equine breeds. If your horse seems to resemble 1-2 breeds strongly, they will be listed on the Registration Papers as "Likeness of Breed", if your horse doesn't fall into any particular noticeable breed, it will be listed as the main "Likeness of Breed", and "Cross Breed". No horse will be listed as registered without proper proof of registration to that particular breed. We do not accept specific breed listings other than the listed breeds below and follow their specific guidelines to determine if your horse fits their breed standards. No exceptions to this rule!

Example; If your horse has all the Appaloosa markings and breed characteristics, it will be listed as Appaloosa.

If your horse is a Paint or Pinto it must carry all acceptable color markings according to their breeds standards. Exception would be the Paint which allows solids in their breeding stock program as long as they are from a registered paint, quarterhorse, or thoroughbred and one parent must be a registered paint.

If your horse is a Buckskin/Quarter Horse, that is how it will be listed.

If your horse is a Thoroughbred type, with a noticeable unidentifiable cross, it will be listed as a Thoroughbred/Cross Breed etc.

The purpose of having one main breed if possible such as; Arabian, Quarter, Thoroughbred, etc. is for indexing the data base. All of the recognized breeds have certain breed characteristics and standards, You may see if your horse complies to those standards by comparing to the individual breeds registry below. In order to be listed to as particular foundation breed, and without the "Cross Breed", your horse must meet all the required criteria as specified by each individual registry.

All horses will be listed under a "Main Foundation" breed, matched as closely to the horses type and conformation as possible, along with a secondary breed to help narrow identification down. The second breed can be listed as any breed the horse shows characteristics of, or as "Cross Breed". The Main Foundation Breeds are listed below, and are linked to their registry, associations, or page of description. Color breeds and Types will also be recognized as a foundation breed. Horses that are purebreds, but that are unable to be registered with their own breed, or that already carry papers from other organizations are welcome to apply with AGHR.
