About the AGHR

The AGHR registry was originally formed with the intent to help grade or unregistered horses have a way to show and prove ownership and designed with rescue horses in mind. Each year many stolen horses are sold at slaughter auctions due to lack of ownership proof or any fast means of notifying the slaughter sales. We are hoping to offer an additional form of identification by including valuable information about the animals physical description as well as accurate photographs to help with identification. Many people are under the misunderstanding that a simple coggins or a non-descript bill of sale will prove ownership. That is not necessarily true. Coggins are easily switched on horses and ownership information is easily fabricated. Even a bill of sale is able to be used on any horse due to lack of information. The AGHR firmly believes in and supports DNA testing, microchip placement, as well as branding and freeze-branding as valuable tools in helping the identification process. We feel that by also including the documentation needed that shows markings, size, age, color, and photographs, it will help in accurately identifying a horses ownership. By notarizing the papers and showing proof of the information being accurate, they become official documented proof of ownership that can easily be used in a dispute to help prove the ownership of the horse described.

The  certificate contains valuable information that could also be used in the case of theft. By notifying us we can send out immediate information to alert communities and possibly alert auction houses with visual information to be aware of. Nothing is fool proof but by adding to your chances of recovery the possibilities of e-alerts you stand a greater chance of recovery. The more information provided and the more people alerted will also help your chances. We have lists available of slaughter houses as well as stolen and missing horse sites that post the information locally and abroad. All of this can help get the word out fast!

The registry is at the present being formed as a beta program to include a filing database of applicants. Hopefully at some point the registry will be offered or included with a national registry or expanded with an ownership able to complete the goals of the registry. At this time the registry is only available as an online registry while it is being formed and refined and no actual physical address or phone is offered other than a mailing address since it is only an online business at this time. It is within our goals to offer this registry for sale to an organization that will complete its mission and take it to the level of participation we intended for it.

The registration process is not quite as easy as it seems. It takes about 2 hours from start to finish to complete an application as care goes into each and every marking being recorded accurately. The images are reformatted and digitally added to the completed papers (which can take some time themselves if the quality is poor). All the information is individually recorded from the application to the completed papers and many applicants are denied due to lack of information as well as images to poor to be printed clearly or lack clarity of the markings. After the application is recorded and all information is transferred, the papers are then printed on a quality card stock paper and the information including pictures are included in the database for easy access in case of emergency. They are then mailed out in heavy duty document folders to the owners of record.

We take pride in every application and do not just throw them together to make a buck. This registry is our goal to help better the horse community and many hours of sweat and dreams have gone into its design and function. Hopefully this will be a registry that will aid in the recovery of animals BEFORE many of them make it to the slaughter houses!
